Shopping and Product Selection

How do I choose the right area rug?

Start by considering your room size, furniture arrangement, colors, personal style, and how the room is used. The right rug material and construction may also depend on children, pets, foot traffic, cleaning needs, and your budget. A Rug Goddess can help you evaluate these factors and narrow your choices.

Can Rug Goddess help me narrow down my choices?

Yes. Area rugs are our specialty. We listen to your needs, review your room and style, and recommend a manageable selection of rugs that fit your space instead of overwhelming you with hundreds of unsuitable choices.

Can you help me coordinate multiple rugs throughout my home?

Yes. We can help coordinate rugs in adjoining rooms, open floor plans, hallways, bedrooms, dining areas and other spaces. The rugs do not need to match exactly, but they should work together through color, style, pattern or texture.

What if I am shopping on a limited budget?

We can accommodate a wide range of budgets. We explain the differences in rug materials, construction, quality, and durability and help you make the best use of your budget. Our goal is to help you find a rug that performs well and that you will enjoy long-term.

What payment methods do you accept?

Rug Goddess accepts major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. PayPal and available PayPal financing options may also be offered during checkout.

Rug Sizes and Placement

How do I determine the right area rug size?

Measure the furniture arrangement and the area you want the rug to define, not just the open floor space. You can also outline possible rug dimensions with painter's tape to see how each size will feel in the room.

What is the most common area rug sizing mistake?

The most common mistake is choosing a rug that is too small. A properly sized rug should connect the furniture and make the room feel grounded. A rug that floats by itself in the middle of the room can make the furniture arrangement feel disconnected.

How should an area rug be positioned in a living room?

In many living rooms, at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs should rest on the rug. Larger rooms may look best when all furniture legs sit on the rug. The rug should be large enough to visually connect the entire seating arrangement.

How much bare floor should show around an area rug?

The amount depends on the room, but approximately 12 to 24 inches of visible flooring around the rug often creates a balanced appearance. Room size, furniture placement, and architectural features should also be considered.

Can you help with unusual room dimensions?

Yes. We specialize in large rugs, custom sizes, unusual room configurations, hallways, open floor plans and other spaces where standard rug dimensions do not provide the right fit.

Area Rug Samples

Can I order a sample before buying a larger area rug?

Many rug manufacturers offer corner samples, swatches, or small rugs, commonly around 2 feet by 3 feet. Samples allow you to see the actual colors, texture, pile, and construction in your own lighting before ordering a larger rug.

How many rug samples should I request?

We recommend narrowing your selection to approximately one to three samples. This keeps the decision process manageable and helps reduce unnecessary sample and return shipping costs.

Is the sample cost credited toward my rug purchase?

When you return an eligible sample and order the corresponding larger rug, Rug Goddess will apply the qualifying sample cost toward your full-size rug purchase.

Can I return a sample if I do not purchase the larger rug?

Yes. Contact Rug Goddess within 15 days for return instructions. If you do not purchase the corresponding larger rug, you are responsible for the applicable shipping costs.

Why should I order a rug sample?

Rug colors can appear differently depending on your computer or phone screen, flooring, wall colors, furnishings, and lighting. A sample gives you a more accurate way to evaluate the rug before paying to ship a large rug back.

Custom Rugs

Does Rug Goddess create custom area rugs?

Yes. We can help create a rug tailored to your room dimensions, preferred shape, colors, style, and design needs. Custom rugs are especially helpful for large rooms, unusual layouts, open floor plans and spaces that do not work with standard rug sizes.

What custom rug options are available?

Options vary by manufacturer and collection. Depending on the product, customization may include size, shape, material, color, pattern, border and fabrication from broadloom carpet.

How long does it take to make a custom area rug?

Depending on the style, construction, and size, a custom rug may take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. Fabricated broadloom, hand-tufted and hand-knotted rugs each have different production timelines. We will explain the options and help you select one that meets your needs and deadline.

Can you help me design a custom rug?

Yes. A Rug Goddess can help evaluate your room, confirm dimensions, discuss materials and construction, and guide you through available colors, shapes, borders, and design choices before the order is placed.

Can I return a custom rug?

Custom-made, personalized, and specially fabricated rugs are non-returnable unless they arrive defective or do not match the approved order specifications.

Stair Runners

Can Rug Goddess help me choose a stair runner?

Yes. We help customers select stair runners based on staircase measurements, runner width, pattern repeat, material, durability, color, style, and adjoining rooms.

What are the benefits of installing a stair runner?

A stair runner can add warmth, comfort, style, and noise reduction while helping protect the surface of your stairs. The right runner can also visually connect the staircase with adjoining rooms and hallways.

How are stair runners measured?

Measurements generally include tread depth, riser height, the number of steps, runner width, landings, turns and pattern repeat. Because every staircase is different, professional measurement is strongly recommended.

Are stair runners sold by the foot?

Many stair runner products are sold by the running foot and then fabricated to fit the staircase or hallway. Available widths and pattern repeats vary by product.

Are stair runners returnable?

Stair runners are custom orders and are generally non-returnable unless the product arrives defective or does not match the approved order.

Do you provide stair runner installation?

Local measurement and installation services may be available in qualifying Tampa Bay, Central Florida, and Kansas City service areas. Contact Rug Goddess to confirm availability for your location.

Can you help with a stair runner if I do not live locally?

Yes. We can provide virtual guidance, review measurements and photographs, help you select samples, and use visualization tools where appropriate. Installation would need to be coordinated with a qualified installer in your area.

Virtual Rug Consultations

What is a virtual rug consultation?

A virtual consultation gives you personalized help from a Rug Goddess without requiring an in-home visit. We review your room, measurements, furniture, colors, artwork, lifestyle, and preferences before recommending rugs for your space.

What should I send before my virtual consultation?

Send clear photographs of the room, room dimensions, furniture placement, flooring, wall colors, artwork, pillows, fabrics, and any adjoining rooms that should be coordinated.

How does the virtual consultation process work?

After reviewing your information, we schedule a call to discuss your style, functional needs, and budget. We then recommend rugs that fit your room and ask you to narrow the selection to your preferred choices. Samples may be available before you order a larger rug.

Are virtual consultations available nationwide?

Yes. Virtual consultations are available to customers throughout the continental United States.

How much does a virtual rug consultation cost?

The virtual consultation fee is $85 and is available to people outside of our service areas. We apply the $85 consultation fee toward your qualifying area rug purchase.

Can I receive rug samples after my virtual consultation?

Yes. Once the choices have been narrowed, samples or small rugs may be available so you can evaluate the colors, texture, and quality before ordering a larger rug.

In-Home Rug Consultations

What happens during an in-home rug consultation?

A Rug Goddess evaluates your room dimensions, furniture placement, colors, flooring, lighting, artwork, traffic patterns, and personal style. We use this information to recommend the right rug size, material, construction, color and design.

How much does an in-home consultation cost?

The in-home consultation fee is $95 for homes and businesses located within a 75-mile radius of a Rug Goddess service location. We apply the $95 consultation fee toward your qualifying area rug purchase. Additional travel fees may apply outside the 75-mile service area.

Do you bring rugs to my home?

The initial consultation is generally used to measure the room, gather colors, and understand your style. We use that information to select appropriate rugs. Samples or small sample-sized rugs may then be brought or ordered for a follow-up presentation.

Will you pressure me to choose something already in stock?

No. We are not limited to one showroom or a small group of in-stock rugs. Our goal is to find the rug that works best for your room, not pressure you into selecting an unsuitable product.

What if I live more than 75 miles from a Rug Goddess service location?

Contact Rug Goddess to discuss your location and project. An in-home consultation may be available for an additional travel fee. You may also use our virtual consultation service to receive personalized rug recommendations without paying in-home travel expenses.

RoomVo Room Visualizer

What is the Rug Goddess Room Visualizer?

RoomVo is a complimentary visualization tool that lets you upload a photograph of your room and see compatible area rugs in the space before you buy.

How do I use RoomVo?

Upload a clear photograph of your room and select compatible rugs from the Rug Goddess website. You can then compare different colors, patterns, styles, and sizes within the image of your room.

Does RoomVo cost anything?

No. The Rug Goddess Room Visualizer is available as a complimentary shopping tool.

Can RoomVo help me choose a rug size?

RoomVo can help you visualize how different sizes may look, but you should still take accurate room and furniture measurements before ordering.

Does RoomVo replace a rug consultation?

RoomVo is helpful when you want to explore independently. A virtual or in-home consultation provides additional guidance about materials, construction, durability, placement, coordinating colors, custom options, and final sizing.

Rug Pads and Area Rug Care

Does my area rug need a rug pad?

A quality rug pad can help keep the rug in place, protect the flooring underneath, add comfort, reduce wear and extend the useful life of the rug.

Which rug pad should I choose?

The right pad depends on the rug size, rug backing, flooring surface, desired cushioning, and whether the rug is being placed over a hard floor or wall-to-wall carpet.

Should the rug pad be the same size as the rug?

The rug pad should normally be slightly smaller than the rug, so it remains hidden beneath the rug's edges.

How should I clean my area rug?

Always follow the manufacturer's care instructions. Vacuum regularly using settings appropriate for the rug construction, avoid using powerful vacuums with beater bars, address spills promptly, and avoid harsh chemicals or excessive moisture.

Can I wash my area rug in a washing machine?

Only wash a rug in a washing machine when the manufacturer specifically identifies it as machine washable. Wool, silk, jute, sisal, handwoven, antique, custom, and many quality rugs generally require specialized or professional cleaning.

Why is my new area rug not lying flat?

Rugs are rolled and compressed for storage and shipping, so curled corners or temporary ridges are normal. Allow the rug several days to relax. A rug pad, reverse rolling, and placing a flat weight on stubborn corners may help.

Do you offer rug protection products?

Rug Goddess offers rug pads and may offer fabric protection products. Contact us to determine whether a protection product is appropriate for your rug's fiber and construction.
